Evyn Spencer Named Head Coach for Swimming and Diving

WEBSTER GROVES, MO, April 15, 2022:  Webster Groves High School is pleased to announce that Evyn Spencer has been selected to be the head boys and girls swimming coach for the Statesmen.  Coach Spencer is in her second year as a PE teacher and assistant swim coach at WGHS.

Coach Spencer has 14 years experience coaching swimming for club teams and and also two years of previous experience as an assistant coach at Lafayette High School while their girls’ team placed in the top 10 in the state both years.  During her own swimming career, she was a two-time state champion in the 200 medley relay while in high school and then went on to  swim collegiately at Truman State University where she became a 12-time NCAA Division II All-American and holds two individual school records.

"I'm very proud and excited to be the next Head Swim Coach for both the boys and girls Statesmen swim and dive teams!” said Spencer. “I have been around a pool for longer than I can remember, and coaching with the Statesmen the last two years has easily been the highlight of my involvement in the sport. The traditions that have been built from Coach B’s tenure are some that I fully intend to uphold, and coming off of two very successful seasons this year has fueled my motivation to further the teams’ achievements and sense of camaraderie. I am so ready to continue coaching these swimmers by building their confidence and improving their skills, while helping them accomplish both their individual and team goals. Go Statesmen!”

WGHS Athletic Director Jerry Collins said, “Coach Spencer has brought a high level of expertise to our swimming program.  She has already built strong relationships with our students and has contributed to their development as athletes.  I expect her to be able to continue to build upon the recent success of our program in her new leadership role.”
